KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYERS AWARDS
In preserving our tradition of football, we closed our season with a befitting Players Awards ceremony to appreciate their contribution and that of the technical team during the tough and drama-filled 2011/12 season.
I have repeatedly stated that ours was not an easy ride considering the many off-the-pitch incidences we experienced and I may therefore not delve much on the subject. I believe we have dropped the curtain and are now preparing for another journey when the 2012/13 season begins.
Congratulations to all players that walked away with different end-of-the-season awards. I just hope their achievements are embraced to challenge others to work hard during recess. Of course we have gathered a lot of lessons that we may apply to bring a different approach to the incumbent season. In a similar fashion, we hope to have learnt from other teams to enhance other peripheral avenues that make us deliver interesting match-days and supporter mobilisation programmes as we move ahead.
After securing the signature of Siboniso Gaxa, our efforts to bolster the team were consolidated following the acquisition of Morgan Gould from Supersport United. I am thankful to his team and management for the manner in which the transaction was administered. We also secured Brilliant Khuzwayo, a young goalkeeper whose talents are currently shared in the National U23 squad. We are also pursuing the signatures of Edward Mangqele of Free State Stars and Erick Mathoho of Bloemfontein Celtic respectively and hope to reach a conclusion soon. Two other unnamed players have also captured our interest. We shall continue with our programme until we assemble a squad that will help pursue our objectives.
I am also thankful to all players that may not be with us in the new season. I wish them luck in their future pursuits.
THE PSL AWARDS
The PSL Players Awards ceremony also brought the curtains down much to the delight of those that collected their tokens of appreciation. Congratulations to all. As for me personally, I am humbled by the gesture and award for contributing to the successes of the PSL. I am thankful and will remain committed to perpetuating the development and sustainability of a sport that is close to my heart.
Congratulations to Supersport United for lifting the 2011/12 Nedbank Trophy.
I would like to wish our national team success in their campaign to qualify for Fifa’s World Cup. We have a tough one against Ethiopia and Botswana in a short space of time. I think we should go for maximum points lest we regret later when the going gets tough against formidable opposition in future encounters.
May we rally behind the players and technical in support of their efforts by filling the stadiums that will be hosting the two clashes.
