Adding something different – Zuma

“I will add a different style of play to the team,” newly signed Dumsani Zuma confidently boasts, who mixes supersonic speed with dribbling skills. He’s also an excellent crosser of the ball.

Zuma recently played for Bafana Bafana in the Chan qualifier at home against Botswana. It was the game in which Ryan Moon scored the winning goal. The 22-year-old midfielder has also been selected for the upcoming Chan qualifiers against Zambia.

“It has been great,” reflects the Pietermaritzburg-born on his time at the Village since joining from Bloemfontein Celtic. “Everybody has been friendly and making me feel welcome. Kaizer Chiefs are a real family.”

“The Soweto Derby was something phenomenal,” Zuma reflects on the 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates at the Carling Black Label Champion Cup match. It’s every player’s dream to play in a Derby.” He didn’t participate in Saturday’s game, but he wants to make sure that he will be in the next Soweto Derby.

The Love & Peace motto of Kaizer Chiefs fits great with Zuma. “I always try to help people to achieve,” he explains, “I also give people respect and I am a humble person, treating everybody equally.”

He admires Thulani Serero, who used to play for Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam and is now with Vitesse Arnhem. The South African midfielder performed brilliantly two seasons ago with Ajax in the Uefa Champions League.

“I have great respect for what Serero has achieved,” the midfielder explains, “I also like the way he plays.”

Zuma can play on both wings and although he’s more comfortable with his right, he’s no slouch with his left either.

What Zuma brings to the team is not only his immense speed, but also dribbling skills and discipline. The players at Kaizer Chiefs are mostly very disciplined, but the newly signed player has promised that he will correct any player that “steps out of line. Disciplined teams win trophies and with that I mean being disciplined on and off the pitch.”

When not training or playing a soccer match, Zuma prefers to chill at home. Often he can be spotted playing a game, like FIFA 17, NBA 2K17 or Don Bradman Cricket 17.

Otherwise, he just watches soccer on TV, although he follows rugby or cricket as well. “AB de Villiers and the Indian batsman Virat Kohli are truly amazing. The moment they enter the field, one can see their determination to win. I love that, as I also want to want trophies, above all with Kaizer Chiefs.”
