Sundowns won't have a chance to defend their Telkom Charity Cup this year after they were elbowed out in the voting process for the four-team tournament by Moroka Swallows.

The Birds sneaked in by 211 votes to edge the Brazilians out.

Former PSL champions Sundowns, who were in fourth position on the final day, managed a total of 33 549 but Swallows pipped them by recording 33 760 votes by midnight on Friday.

The Telkom Charity Cup, won by Sundowns last year, will take place at the FNB Stadium on Saturday with the first semifinal scheduled for 10:00 and the second at 12:00.

Ria Stars, who amassed the most number of votes at 52 861, were drawn against Swallows for the second semifinal while traditional rivals Orlando Pirates (35 217) and Kaizer Chiefs (34 599) were drawn against each other in the first semi.

A total of 206 503 votes were registered and audited by Deloitte & Touche. The league tried to put in place methods to eliminate the vote manipulation of the past.

PSL spokesperson Andrew Dipela said gates would open at 08:00 and that only 79 000 tickets would be pre-sold at Ticket Web outlets countrywide.

Dipela further said over 1000 security personnel would be deployed in and around the stadium to deal with any emergencies.
