Thousands of Amakhosi fans were thoroughly entertained at Durban’s South Beach and rewarded with gifts on Friday, 15 December, as Vodacom and Kaizer Chiefs activated Vodacom’s Shake Every Day summer campaign.

This was the second activation at the picturesque location within the space of three weeks and took place on the eve of Kaizer Chiefs’ last match of the year at the Moses Mabhida Stadium against Ajax Cape Town.

The lead character of the campaign, Bra Shakes (whose real name is Zakhele Mabaso), an actor in the popular television soapie, Isibaya, was present, much to the delight of those in attendance. He was accompanied by fellow actor, Mdu Gumede and two other actors, Nompilo Maphumulo and Masoja Msiza from the biggest television show in the country, Uzalo.

The cherry on top was the appearance at the activation of Glamour Boys, Willard Katsande, Yusuf Bunting, Joseph Molangoane and Tsepo Masilela. They interacted with the Amakhosi faithful, signed autographs and posed for pictures.

There were ticket giveaways, Vodacom Shake Every Day hampers, Vodacom airtime vouchers, cellphones, flip-flops, beach towels, Kaizer Chiefs jerseys and many other fabulous prizes.

In the Shakeville Arena, supporters could play human snooker, which is played with the feet and includes six small soccer balls.

The biggest highlight for the fans was watching their favourite TV stars take on members of the media in a beach soccer match. Following that, the supporters also got a chance to take part in the games themselves and received prizes for their effort.

Uzalo actor, Masoja Msiza said that he was excited to be a part of the activation. “This was definitely one of the best ones I’ve ever been to and the fans came out in big numbers. I also enjoyed playing beach football to show the guys that you can have fun while exercising.”

Supporters on the beachfront had the opportunity to do their Christmas shopping at the KC Retail stand which had authentic Kaizer Chiefs merchandise for sale. In addition, KC Mobile and KC Insurance agents were on hand to assist people with mobile and insurance advice.

Fifteen lucky fans who had bought ordinary tickets had them upgraded to the Vodacom VIP suite which afforded them access to sit with celebrities, Kaizer Chiefs players, receive free merchandise and enjoy great food and drinks.

“The activation was different from previous ones and worked out very well. We are happy that the rain held off and allowed us to have a successful event,” commented Kemiso Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs Digital Manager. “The fans enjoyed their time with Bra Shakes, the players and celebrities and, especially, winning prizes.”

Chiefs closed the year with a win over Ajax Cape Town in an Absa Premiership encounter at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

The club wishes all supporters a peaceful festive season.
