Lorenzo Gordinho will make his debut for the South African national team in Tuesday’s friendly against Zambia at Moruleng Stadium (kick-off at 19:00).

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter indicated that Erick Mathoho has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury, while captain Thulani Hlatswayo won’t be in the starting line-up for the game against Chipolopolo.

Gordinho will be partnered in the centre of defence by Ajax Cape Town’s Rivaldo Coetzee.

Baxter said about the two young centre-backs: “It will be an interesting pairing playing against a strong Zambia team. Can they cope? We will see.”

The Bafana Bafana coach didn’t reveal as yet the rest of the starting XI, but he did mention planning to field a strong team against Zambia, which could mean that Itumeleng Khune and Ramahlwe Mphahlele might start.

South Africa beat Nigeria 2-0 in the first Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.
