“We are ready to face Free State Stars on Saturday night,” says Kaizer Chiefs defender Teenage Hadebe. “I’m glad to be in the mix and to be available for selection when the coach calls my name.”

The young Zimbabwean made his debut against AmaZulu on Wednesday, after getting injured soon after having joined Amakhosi from Zimbabwean side Chicken Inn during the off-season.

“Finally, I made my debut,” reflects the 22-year-old after making his long awaited start in the Gold and Black colours. “It is a dream come true. I want to thank everyone at Kaizer Chiefs for welcoming me at the club with so much warmth. I want to contribute and with this kind of support, the club will continue to be a winner.”

Hadebe was in the thick of things for most of the game against AmaZulu and at some point even cleared the ball from the line with Itumeleng Khune well beaten. “As a player I should have confidence. I thought my first touch was good and this eased me into the game. From there on, I was comfortable because I’m a ball player as well.”

Talking about his contribution against AmaZulu, the young defender stopped short of expressing his excitement. “I’m happy we kept a clean sheet. That’s what I needed, especially in my first game. It will boost my confidence going forward."

“Thanks must go as well to Khune for saving the penalty. We had a good understanding at the back and this bodes well for our defensive prospects going forward.”

Hadebe would relish the opportunity to make a follow-up display, when Chiefs welcome Free State Stars at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

“I'm always prepared to go to the battlefield when called upon,” concludes Hadebe. “We have so much quality in the squad and we are all ready to do the job at any given time when duty calls.

“I’ve seen Stars play. We are aware that they have good players and a good coach. However, we have noticed how they play and we are positive that we’ve got all areas covered.”
