Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United are fighting for third place. “We are on a mission to finish third,” Bernard ‘Die Hond’ Parker points out, “as that will give us a position in the CAF Confederation Cup.”

Amakhosi host the Team of Choice at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 28 April (kick-off is at 15:00). It’s the last home game this season.

Chiefs lost against Golden Arrows on Tuesday. “We have been knocked hard,” Parker admits. “We need to reset ourselves mentally. It’s a big challenge as a footballer. We have to be mentally strong and stick together.”

Maritzburg United reached the Nedbank Cup final last weekend, thanks to beating Mamelodi Sundowns. They played again against the Brazilians on Wednesday, achieving a draw.

Chiefs are at present in fourth spot on 42 points from 28 games, while the Pietermaritzburg-based side has one point more. There are still two matches to go this Absa Premiership season. The last game is on the road against Ajax Cape Town on Saturday, 12 May.

“We want to win the final two matches of the season,” Parker continues, “because we want to finish in a good frame of mind.”

‘Die Hond’ also has a word to the supporters, “iKhosi alipheli umoya”.

Tickets for the games between Amakhosi and the Team of Choice are on sale at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide. Cost per ticket is R40.
