Kaizer Chiefs striker Shaun Permall returned to training on Monday and could be back in action sooner than expected. According to the medical team the player 'is looking very good'.

Permall missed a number of Kaizer Chiefs games, including last week's BP Top Eight triumph against Sundowns, with a groin injury and it was feared he could require surgery.

However, after thorough consultations with a host of medical experts, the Chiefs doctors decided against operating.

Permall started training with the rest of the squad on Monday and appears to be responding positively to treatment. News of Permall’s recovery will be a breath of fresh air to the Amakhosi technical team as the Naturena side launches an assault on the Castle Premiership title.

More good news from the medical room is that defender Garry Goldstone could also be back in action sooner than expected.

Goldstone, who spent most of last season in consultation rooms with a groin injury, made a comeback in the off-season and was beginning to enjoy his football when another injury struck.

The tall defender left the field after only 15 minutes in the first home game against Classic at Ellis Park on August 22. That injury forced coach Muhsin Ertugral to make an early substitution by bringing on Cyril Nzama, the toast of Amakhosi’s BP Top Eight victory against Sundowns last Saturday.

Following that energy-sapping final, Etrugral said he would consider resting some of his key players in the Wednesday game.

This, Ertugral said, would allow the players time to recover ahead of the Mandela Cup clash with Egyptian side Ismailia on Sunday. The Mandela Cup match will be broadcast live on SuperSport 3 at 15:00.

The Amakhosi will travel to East London for an afternoon date with Bush Bucks on Wednesday.

The fixture was originally scheduled for a 20:00 kick-off but the league, in consultation with the club, decided to move the match to a 15:45 kick-off in anticipation of a huge crowd following the Top Eight victory.

There are two Premier League matches scheduled for Wednesday. Santos will be at home to neighbours Hellenic in Green Point while Jomo Cosmos entertain Sundowns in Rustenburg. Both matches kick off at 20:00.
