We took our chances - Komphela

“There was good energy in the match,” Steve Komphela reflects after the Bloemfontein Celtic win. “I am glad we took our chances.”

“There were only a few entries into our box,” the Chiefs coach adds, “they wanted to use speed and we dealt with that very well.”

The match was played in front of a near capacity crowd at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.

“At the end, when we were leading, they threw everything at us as logic would dictate,” Komphela points out. “They had to throw everything at us to try to salvage something from the game. We are happy with the result, even though the pitch was not superb to play our normal game – it was bumpy and that made it difficult for a flowing game.”

The result means Amakhosi crossed the forty point mark on 42 points, two points behind leaders Bidvest Wits.

“We are watching the log and the fixtures at this stage,” Amakhosi’s coach continues, “especially as our title contenders play against each other. It makes for an interesting finish to this league season.

“We will still respect the rest of the opponents irrespective of their positions on the log. I’m glad we are well within reach of winning the big one.”

Komphela revealed his technical ploy against Celtic. “We defended well, while we scored beautiful and technical goals. And the clean sheet is another plus. A win for our supporters makes us want to win more.”

The Chiefs mentor noted Bernard Parker’s suspension after picking up his fourth yellow card. “Parker will be out of our next game,” Komphela reacts. “That will give another player an opportunity to come in and make a contribution.”
