We want to maintain the good form - Komphela

“We are going to Polokwane to win,” coach Steve Komphela vowed ahead of Amakhosi's much anticipated Absa Premiership clash against Baroka FC this Sunday afternoon. “We want to continue with our unbeaten run.”

The match will take place at Peter Mokaba Stadium. Kick-off is at 15:30.

Kaizer Chiefs are on a good run of form, being unbeaten for four games. “That’s great,” admits Komphela. “However, it plays no role in the preparation, as every match poses a new challenge.”

The Chiefs coach took his team through their pre-match paces on Saturday afternoon. “We’ve done our homework. There are many variables in any league match this season - one never knows what to expect. Look at Baroka, they lost to Orlando Pirates a fortnight ago and then recovered to beat AmaZulu. So we had to process all that during our preparation.”

Baroka collected maximum points in the first round, but Komphela doesn’t mince his words: “That’s water under the bridge, it is history and that’s where that result belongs. Much has happened since then.”

George ‘Mido’ Maluleka and Siyabonga Ngezana served a one match ban against Polokwane City last weekend.

Does that mean that Komphela will have a selection nightmare for Sunday’s match against Baroka? “Not at all,” he reacts with a smile on his face. “And if so, it will be a beautiful nightmare to have.

“It is always a pleasure to have options when approaching a match. We welcome both Mido and Siya back in the squad. Let's see what happens when we finalise the team. It's a healthy situation. We will field a side and a system with the aim of getting the three points.”

Amakhosi will enter Peter Mokaba Stadium with Kabelo Mahlasela and Tsepo Masilela unavailable for selection due to injuries.

“As always we want to win for our supporters,” Komphela concludes. “The neutrals too will be watching and hoping to witness an exciting match. We are prepared and ready to give it our all for this badge.”
