“We are unbeaten for five league games in a row,” Steve Komphela says about tonight’s away game to Chippa United. “However, we have only won once, drawing the other four. We can do better.”

The match is scheduled to take place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Kick-off is at 19:30.

“We worked hard on finishing and with a bit more composure in the box, I am confident that we will beat Chippa,” Komphela points out.

Amakhosi recently beat the Chilli Boys in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals thanks to Bernard Parker’s solitary goal from the penalty spot.

“Make no mistake, Chippa are dangerous,” Komphela stresses. “They have lethal players and their build-up play is something to look out for. In our previous encounters they didn’t allow us to build-up from the back and they were very robust in their play. We are bringing our A-game tonight.”

Chippa are strong at the back with the like of former Chiefs development player, Zitha Macheke, and the Nigerian James Okwuosa, while Kurt Lentjies can cause havoc in the middle of the park

Komphela took his charges through their paces in a pre-match training session on Tuesday morning before the two hour flight to the Windy City.

“We have addressed the issue of consistency in our play,” Komphela adds. “Our preparations were spot on and I hope that we can take the quality of the form shown in our recent practice sessions into our game. The lads looked sharp in training and the mood in the camp is good. We are looking forward to the game.”

“Of course, Chippa have proven to be a hard nut to crack this season,” the Chiefs coach says. “The game will be interesting to watch, that’s for sure. The atmosphere will be fantastic as always, with an enthusiastic crowd at the stadium. I am hopeful that with the positive energy flowing from the stands that the players will respond accordingly by scoring goals.”

“Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Kgotso Moleko are working their way back to full match fitness,” Komphela concludes by commenting about the players still out, “while Ryan Moon and Tsepo Masilela are still recovering respectively from a jaw and ankle injury.”
