“We are switched on and we want to keep it that way,” Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says. “Winning matches is a confidence booster. We have been in a winning mood and it’s now a matter of consolidating the winning spirit.”

Komphela took his team through the pre-match practice session on Friday afternoon. Three points will be at stake when Kaizer Chiefs host Bloemfontein Celtic at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening. Kick-off is at 20:15.

“I thought our training sessions went well this week,” the Chiefs coach continues. “At this stage of the league season every team has a mission to fulfill. We are chasing the league title and I’m sure that Celtic have their sights on moving away from the danger zone.”

“Celtic have Lucky Baloyi and Lorenzo Gordinho in their team,” comments Komphela, referring to former Chiefs player (Baloyi) and a Glamour Boys who is on loan at Celtic (Gordinho). “I’m sure they will want to prove a point.

“They also have players like Ndumiso Mabena, who is an experienced campaigner. We will treat Celtic with respect. We are ready to defend our territory and to win the match.”

Chiefs and Celtic met each other in their opening match of this league campaign with the game ending in a one-all draw. Erick Mathoho put Amakhosi ahead in the 36th minute after which the home side equalised from the penalty spot in the second half.

Midfield hard man Willard Katsande will be missing from the Chiefs squad due to a family bereavement. “We will have a forced change in the absence of Willard,” the Amakhosi mentor confirms. “With Willard out, we will weigh our options and cover that defensive midfield area.”

Teenage Hadebe is struggling a bit with an ankle injury and will go through a late fitness test. The good news is that George ‘Mido’ Maluleka is back from injury and available for selection.

“We are prepared for a tough match,” Komphela concludes. “We are going all out for the three points - the players are well aware that that’s our ambition going into every match.”
