The National Cup competition was originally known as the Life Challenge Cup. It’s held at the end of the season. Kaizer Chiefs won the Life Challenge Cup for the first time in 1971, beating Orlando Pirates after extra time. Since, Amakhosi won the National Cup, under its various names, another 12 times. The cup is based on the English FA Cup format and it’s called Nedbank Cup since 2008.
