Akumu looking ahead to TTM after morale boosting wins

Amakhosi utility man Anthony Akumu Agay would like for Chiefs to build on their last two league wins against AmaZulu and Cape Town City by continuing to collect points. The two wins against have seen Chiefs rise from 14th to 8th on the log table.

Agay and his teammates now look to forge ahead after those wins and performances and will be looking to use them as motivation for Chiefs in their next game against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday at 17:00 at FNB Stadium.

The lanky Kenyan international has played in eight league games this season, including starting the last six league games. He is confident that Chiefs can build on their recent victories as they prepare to host TTM.

“Winning two games in a row is a morale booster,” admits Agay.  “We can continue from where we left off for the next game against TTM. If we can approach the next game in the same way we approached the last two games, I believe that we can get the maximum points we need.”

Agay has also had to adjust his game, after having been used in various roles. “I’ve adapted to playing wherever coach Gavin Hunt utilises me,” he adds. “Playing anywhere on the field is all about the belief that the coach and your teammates have in you. So, I’m comfortable with being deployed in any position that I can play. I have played in many positions as player, so it’s not a new thing for me.”

He also holds the view that Chiefs skipper Ramahlwe Mphahlele has had a positive influence on him. “Playing with ‘Rama’ and the other guys is good. Someone like Rama makes it easier because he communicates with me all the time and he’s experienced.  It’s a good thing to be playing and winning.”

With TTM on the horizon Agay is again expecting a physical encounter but is confident that Chiefs can gain a positive outcome from the game.

“Our next game on Tuesday won’t be easy,” he concludes. “It will be as tough as the other ones. Therefore, it’s about the right attitude and approach. I believe we can collect the three points. Whoever will be there on the pitch must be supported.”

A win against TTM could help Chiefs ascend the table further. But Amakhosi will be under no illusions as to the task that lies ahead of them, with TTM themselves looking for the win. It will be key for Chiefs to continue showing the same determined and motivated form that they have displayed in recent games if they are to overcome a determined TTM side on Tuesday afternoon at 17:00.

The game will be live on SuperSport channel 202.
