Coach Middendorp relishes the prospects of the weekend of Kaizer Chiefs participation in two friendly matches, “it’s good for us,” he remarked. “We have it all worked out. Our approach is integrated into our planning and preparation. It is all comprehensive in terms of approach.”

Chiefs will take on Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, “it is an opportunity to sample a few technical elements of our game,” said the German. “It’s not only about that - there’s an element of keeping the momentum. If you recall before George Maluleka got injured, Willard Katsande was working hard to keep same level of fitness with the rest of the team. That’s why he came on and did the job for the team.”

The match is played under the auspices of the annual Shell Helix Ultra Cup, which is in its second edition. Sundowns won the inaugural tie 2-1. The match takes place at FNB Stadium this afternoon.

“We are playing against one of the top teams. However, we are not worried about them. Ours is what we’ve planned, and we should do well and win the match. We’ve done all the necessary in the preparations.”

Chiefs will be without Itumeleng Khune who’s out with a groin injury, “Khune is sidelined for the month,” confirmed Middendorp. “We have four internationals doing duty for South Africa and Zambia. What’s important though is that will have all positions covered and hope we will use this to assess some combinations, especial at the back row.”

Kick-off is for the match is 16:00. Tickets are available from Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers stores.
