Kaizer Chiefs                                (1) 1 (Billiat 14’)

SuperSport United                     (1) 1 (Macuphu 2’)

Kaizer Chiefs drew 1-1 to SuperSport United in an away clash at Mbombela Stadium on Friday night. Matsatsantsa opened the score early on in the Absa Premiership fixture with Khama Billiat netting beautifully the equalizer from a long distance shot in the 14th minute.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo made his first start for the first team, after having made his debut coming on against Maritzburg United last week.

Midfield anchor Willard Katsande returned to the line-up, partnering George Maluleka in central midfield.

The match had barely started when the home side had the ball in the back of the net. Mxolisi Macuphu was the scorer of the goal in the second minute.

The Glamour Boys, however, quickly recovered from this early set-back, playing positive attacking football.

Ngcobo looked good in midfield, spraying the ball around nicely, while Billiat was clearly on song.

Leonardo Castro and George Maluleka were both close to netting the equalizer in the ninth minute, but first SuperSport’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made a fine block after which ‘Mido’ hit the ball over the crossbar.

It was Billiat who netted the 1-all in the 14th minute. The Zimbabwean got the ball in his own half, moved forward at high speed before hitting a powerful swerving shot that found the back of the net. Keeper Williams didn’t even react. It was a beauty and the attacker’s fifth league goal.

It was a lively game that was flowing nicely up and down in front of a crowd of about 30 000 spectators, mostly Amakhosi supporters.

Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya did well on the left flank, moving up and down. He delivered a telling cross into the box in the 17th minute to Castro, who put the ball over the crossbar.

Chiefs were the better side in the entertaining first half, even though they couldn’t add to the one goal.

The home side tried to dominate early in the second half, but it didn’t result in too many real goalscoring chances.

Coach Ernst Middendorp made the first substitution in the 64th minute, bringing on Teenage Hadebe for Ntiya-Ntiya.

There was a scorching shot from Daniel Cardoso from just outside the box, but the ball flew over the bar.

SuperSport also had their chances, and there were some fine saves from Bruce Bvuma, who made his second consecutive start.

Ngcobo was replaced by Philani Zulu in the 76th minute. The youngster delivered an excellent performance, showing confidence on the ball and some good passing.

It continued to be an open game with both sides attacking whenever having the opportunity to do so, even though there weren’t that many clear-cut changes for either side.

Chiefs got their opportunities to get the win, but the ball just didn’t want to end up in the goal.

Key moment in the match:

That must be the brilliant goal from Khama Billiat in the 14th minute. The equalizer brought Kaizer Chiefs back into the game after having conceded an early goal.

Most Valuable Player (MVP):

Khama Billiat had a fantastic first half and an amazing goal, although he faded somewhat in the second half. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo had a fine first start, while Willard Katsande was working hard in his central midfield role. Goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, meanwhile, made a few excellent reflex saves. It was, however, Billiat who was correctly selected as the Man of the Match.
