“It is good to see the players before such a big match so calm but highly focused,” commented coach Ernst Middendorp when Kaizer Chiefs landed safely at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport on Friday afternoon. “It is a final and there are no two ways about it. The team is aware of the task ahead. We have an obligation to fulfil for the club and its supporters.”
Kaizer Chiefs is aiming to clinch their record 14th Nedbank Cup trophy when they face TS Galaxy in the final on Saturday night.
The final is billed ‘David vs Goliath’ by pundits, but the Amakhosi coach poured cold water on this popular thought. “That can’t be. It’s a cup final between two teams that have qualified to be in it. We have prepared for a tough encounter.”
Chiefs completed their preparation with a light pre-match training at the match venue, Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Thereafter, Middendorp reported a strong squad to select his match day combination. “We have travelled with the entire squad. They all want to play and it’s good to go to into match with such an attitude.”
The Nedbank Cup final brings down the curtains of the 2018/19 PSL season.
Kick-off is at 19:00.
