Chiefs and Pirates all square in youth Derbies

There was no separating the Kaizer Chiefs U-13, U-15 and U-17 teams when they journeyed to Randburg on Saturday to face their counterparts from Orlando Pirates in Gauteng Development League matches, a week before the Chiefs senior team faces off with Pirates in a Telkom Knockout quarterfinal game. The Chiefs U-13 and U-15 teams both played out 2-2 draws while the Chiefs U-17 team drew their game 1-1.

 

Under 13s

Orlando Pirates          2 (Rogers 12’, Njomane 29’)

Kaizer Chiefs               2 (Motaung 15’, Carter 22’)

The Chiefs U-13 team were involved in a four-goal thriller with all the action coming in the first half. They fell behind after 12 minutes with Matthew Rogers giving the hosts the lead. Three minutes later Chiefs were level with Ofentse Motaung turning home the ball from close range. Travis Carter then put Chiefs ahead with a rasping shot from long range which flew over the stranded keeper and flew into the back of the net to make it 2-1. Pirates equalised a minute before halftime Andile Njomane putting the ball home from close range. The second half was a more subdued affair with Chiefs best chance coming midway through the half with Sima Bobo crashing a free kick against the woodwork.

 

Under 15s

Orlando Pirates          2 (Kubheka 48, MacNamara 64’)

Kaizer Chiefs               2 (Zitha pen 21’, Masombuka 65’)

Kaizer Chiefs’ U-15 team took the lead in the 21st minute of their game against Orlando Pirates U-15 team, with Bafana Zitha converting a penalty sending the Pirates keeper the wrong way as he put Chiefs in front. Pirates turned the tie in the second half as they went level through Lwandile Kubheka in the 48th minute. They went ahead when Jason MacNamara scored in the 64th minute. Chiefs though were back level soon after when Sifiso Masombuka took advantage of a spill by the goalkeeper to turn the ball home and ensure the game finished all square at 1-1.

 

Under 17s

Orlando Pirates          1 (Jansen 37’)

Kaizer Chiefs               1 (Marks 6’)

Jordan Marks did well to bring the ball under control turn and shoot along the ground to beat the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper at the far post, to give Chiefs a 1-0 lead six minutes into the Chiefs U-17s fixture against Pirates U-17s. Amakhosi had a number of chances to have gone 2-0 up but were unable to convert them. They conceded an equaliser three minutes before halftime when Deyogurn Jansen struck for Pirates. The game would end 1-1.

 

The teams will face off in the coming week again with the Chiefs U-13 and U-17 teams in action at the Kaizer Chiefs village in Naturena on Tuesday at 16h30 while the U-15 team will also host Pirates. They will be in action on Wednesday at the same time.
