Moroka Swallows' slender hopes of winning the Castle Premiership soccer championship evaporated at the Rand Stadium on Wednesday when they suffered a humiliating 5-1 beating at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs in a one-sided derby.

Amakhosi led 3-0 at the interval.

To make matters worse for the home side, Birds had striker Mark Williams sent off late in injury time by referee Simon Motau for a second bookable offence.

Chiefs took the initiative form the kick-off and midfielder Jabu Pule netted the first of his brace after only six minutes when he found himself with plenty of room on the edge of the penalty area, was able to look up and chip the ball past goalkeeper Ida Peterside to make it 1-0.

No sooner had the cheers died down from the Chiefs fans in the smallish 6000 crowd when Shaun Permall made it 2-0 in the eighth minute when he superbly headered home Cyril Nzama's pinpoint cross.

Pule then netted goal number three on 25 minutes when Peterside slipped and Pule jumped for joy when his softy hit header bobbled over the goalline.

Swallows' only strike at goal in the first half came seconds

from the half-time whistle when Amakhosi 'keeper Rowen Fernandez pulled off a marvelous close range save from a well directed shot from Marc Batchelor.

The second half was not as busy as the first 45 minutes but

Amakhosi were still in command. Swallows failed to get off the

canvass and showed little direction and lacked will to fight back.

Swallows substitute Molefi Ntsoelengoe watched as his shot

screamed over the crossbar after 63 minutes. Two minutes later Chiefs' Stanton Fredericks chipped over the Birds crossbar.

Peterside did well to deny Chiefs a fourth goal when he dived

full stretch to fist away a fierce drive from Luke Jukulile after

76 minutes.

But the big Nigerian could do little stop Nzama making it 4-0

when he latched onto the rebound after Thabo Mooki's shot crashed off the woodwork after 81 minutes. Substitute Lucas Sebona netted a consolation goal a minute later.

However, Chiefs were not finished and Arthur Zwane made it 5-1 with a brilliant drive six minutes from time to end the rout and notch Chiefs biggest league win of the season.
