Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein is enjoying some good form with good displays and scoring goals.

Kaizer Chiefs travel to Zambia this weekend to negotiate passage with Zesco United FC to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup. The Zambians host Amakhosi in the first leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola, on Sunday, 13 January (kick-off at 15:00, Zambian and South African time).

“We have prepared to win in Zambia,” says Ekstein. The midfield dynamo further stated, “We know it’s going to be a tough game against a top Zambian side.”

Amakhosi have won four and lost one game under the new coaching team of Ernst Middendorp and Shaun Bartlett and ‘Pule’ attributes the team’s revival to the arrival of these two mentors.

“The mood is very positive in the camp,” comments the skilful midfielder. “We are a happy bunch and are working well with the new technical team. They have introduced new elements in the camp, which are very positive.”

Zesco United are the defending Zambian league champions and Ekstein is aware of their prowess.

“They won the league last season,” he remarks. “We are fully aware that they are a big team. It promises to be a massive game.”

The game on Sunday is the first leg tie with the second leg billed to take place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 19 January (kick-off at 20:00). Tickets for the game at FNB are already available at Computicket at R40.

Ekstein shares some thoughts from the camp.

“We want to win all the games we play,” he continues. “And for Sunday’s match we want a win away to have a good chance to go through at home.”

Ekstein scored a brace of goals against Elgeco Plus in Madagascar and followed up with a goal locally against Bidvest Wits.

“I’m getting good support from the coaches,” concludes Ekstein. “I am in good hands and getting the support from the team. What’s most important, however, is for me to contribute so that the team succeeds.”
