Honourable accolade for Mashiane

Kaizer Chiefs defender-cum-midfielder Happy Mashiane picked up the goal of the month award for May 2021 on Thursday afternoon for his outstanding freekick he took in the 3rd minute of the game between Chiefs against Bloemfontein Celtic. The DStv Premiership match which ended 2-2 was played on 1 May at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Mangaung.

Mashiane’s curled in a free kick from a tight angle on the edge of the Celtic 18-yard to put Chiefs 1-0 up at the time.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took their precious time to vote for me so that I could receive this prestigious goal of the month award,” says a grateful Mashiane after his goal got the nod for being the best for May 2021.

According to the young player, the execution of the dead ball was taught to him on the training ground. His hard work has been rewarded with a goal that would make any marksman proud with a deftly curled ball that past Celtic keeper Jackson Mabokgwane at pace.

“It is also important to give a word of thanks to my technical team for being there for me, for guiding me and making sure that I show my level best each and every I get my opportunity,” he adds. “They make sure that I show my level best each and every time I get the opportunity. Regardless of how the season has gone, they have been there pushing me to be one of the greatest players.

“I would like to thank my teammates because they have also been pushing me to do my level best all the time – I cannot thank them enough. I am humbled and grateful for everything they have done for me.”

With Mashiane winning the goal of the month award for May, it means that Chiefs players have won the prize in back to back sequences with Samir Nurković picking up the prize for best goal for the month of March/April.
