Kaizer Chiefs title celebrations continued at Vodaworld on Tuesday night as players were rewarded for their efforts in retaining the Castle Premiership trophy and not surprising, Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma emerged the biggest winner on the night.

Mbesuma, the club’s leading goalscorer with 35 goals in all competitions, took home two main awards plus three Player of the Month awards. The Golden Boot award earned him a R20 000 shopping vouchers from the club’s technical partners Nike.

The Zambian lad was descried as “Amakhosi’s most inspirational player this season, having scored more than 30 goals”.

He made an impressive start to his career at Chiefs scoring on debut. Mbesuma then started the new campaign by scoring a hat-trick on the opening day of the season and has found the target consistently ever since.

Ntofontofo has taken his form to international the international arean and has scored goals in as many appearances for Zambia in their 2006 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifiers. He is a complete striker capable of firing from all distances and angles.

It was then not surprising when Mbesuma was named Kaizer Chiefs Player of the Year, taking home R75 000, a state of the art Nissan 4X4 X-Trail plus a Vodacom hamper. Goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez and winger Arthur Zwane were finalists in this category.

The Players’ Player of the Year award was contested by the same individuals - Fernandez, Mbesuma and Zwane. Here the Amakhosi players gave their nod to Fernandez, who has definitely improved over the years.

It was probably Rowen’s outstanding performance in the Coca-Cola Cup semifinal against Moroka Swallows which won him the award. On that particular night, Fernandez made three brilliant penalty saves to take Amakhosi through to the final.

Fernandez’s hardwork at training, his consistency and good performances have seen him gaining recognition on the international front. He made his debut for South Africa in a friendly against African champions Tunisia. Voted as the most Improved Player of the Year at the Kaizer Chiefs Awards 2003/04 season, he continues to improve and is in amazing form. He commands the respect of his teammates and has shown that he is a true leader.

Midfielder Emmanuel “Scara” Ngobese, written off by the media as a flop at the start of the season, walked home with two key individual awards, Goal of the Year and Discovery of the Year (sponsored by Discovery Health).

Ngobese has been on scintillating form throughout the season, grabbing the headlines with sensational goals and earning a place in the Chiefs starting line-up. He enjoys playing the type of football that displays sleek footwork mixed with intelligent playing. Scara is one for the future, not only for Amakhosi, but also for the country.

Zwane was given the Fair Play Award after overcoming a psychological blow following an unjust lengthy ban by the local authorities. He returned to action at the start of the season and started making headlines for all the right reasons. Keeping himself on the trendsetter’s page, Arthur has a tremendous work rate and a significant input into the team’s success this season.

The Most Improved Player (sponsored by Vodacom) went to midfielder Gerald Sibeko. Tso, as he is affectionately known, bust into the scene this season commanding the midfield as if he has been doing so for years. He is now an integral part in the Chiefs line-up and orchestrating the team’s league and cup campaigns from the centre of the park with aplomb.

Veteran midfielder Thabo “Tsiki-Tsiki” Mooki won the Best Dressed Player Award sponsored by Damat & Tween.

There were three other key winners on the night. The club’s former Brand Manager Vivian Casaletti was recognised for her contributions in building the Amakhosi brand. She along with Chomane Chomane of Lesedi FM and veteran journalist Lennie Kleintjie received Special Awards from the chairman Kaizer Motaung.
