The wait for the biggest football spectacle in South Africa is almost over! The epic clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates takes place this afternoon and millions of people in South Africa and the world will be glued to their screens to see it. Whichever way you look at it, every time these archrivals meet, the grass suffers. The two giants meet in a Telkom Knockout Cup quarterfinal match and on the other hand it is a Soweto Derby.

Ernst Middendorp and his troops landed in Durban on Friday afternoon amidst the euphoria hovering over this Telkom Knockout Cup round of Last 8 against Orlando Pirates.

“We know what this match means to everybody,” enthused Middendorp. “To us, like I said before, it about playing with the aim of winning and progressing to the next stage of the competition. The team is focusing on the mission. We are anticipating a tough contest which is a norm in derby matches. We have done the homework and ready to take to the field.”

Having played in another hyped-up match last week against Mamelodi Sundowns, Middendorp confirmed that Kearyn Baccus is still out of contention for places due to injury, “it is no secret that Baccus and Reeve Frosler are out with injuries,” said Middendorp. “We have equally good quality to fill those positions.”

Middendorp took his charges through the pre-match session at the match venue on Friday afternoon, Moses Mabhida Stadium. “The mood in the team is good. That’s what you need going into a match of this magnitude. We have our duck in a row. We are ready and we aim to do well and progress to the next round,” he concluded.

Moses Mabhida Stadium is set for a humdinger. Tickets are sold out. Gates open at 12:00 and entertainment is galore before kick-off at 15:00.
