For the second month in succession a Kaizer Chiefs player won the Absa Premiership Goal of the month award. Following on from Dumsani Zuma winning the accolade for scoring the best goal in November, Samir Nurković picked up the award at a ceremony held at the Premier Soccer League offices in Parktown, Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon for the best goal in December.

Nurković scored a hat-trick in Chiefs’ 5-3 league win in Durban over Bloemfontein Celtic on 7 December. His first goal in that game was voted as the goal of the month for December. With Chiefs trailing 1-0 in the game, the Serbian drew Amakhosi level in the 21st minute with a well taken volley on the turn.

Describing the goal Nurković says: “it was a great assist from Lebogang Manyama. It takes a lot of hard work to build an understanding like that with your teammates. When the ball came, I had to think quick and went to beat the goalkeeper at his near post and it all worked out well.”

The Serb has been credited a few times this season for his contributions, and in addition to his award for goal of the month, he has also been the man of the match on four occasions. “It is an honour to win this award a lot of other great goals were also nominated,” he added. This was also an important goal as it brought us back in the game and helped me go onto score a hattrick. I am always pleased to contribute to a winning effort and what is important was that we won the game against Celtic.”

Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp was also on hand to congratulate Nurković on winning this special award. He said:” Congratulations to Samir for winning the goal of the month award for December. He comes from a different continent and a different style of football. He has contributed well for the team since his arrival. It is good to see the players getting recognition for their hard work and I was also pleased for Dumsani Zuma when he won the goal of the month for November.”

Nurković has scored 10 league goals in 15 league outings this season. He will be back at the venue where he scored the goal of the month for December as Chiefs are return to the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon for a 15:30 kick to face Lamontville Golden Arrows in an Absa Premiership game.
