“Having a good pre-season is the foundation for the season,” says Ramahlwe ‘Rama’ Mphahlele about the importance of pre-season. Kaizer Chiefs returned to training on Monday. “Everybody is working hard to get in shape.”

The squad did fitness and medical testing on Monday and Tuesday, before the hard work started on Wednesday to get fully fit and sharp for the upcoming season.

The right-back did work out during the off-season. “I regularly went to the gym,” he confirms, “working a lot on core.”

He also had a nice surprise for his wife during the off-season. “We went to Mauritius to celebrate her birthday. But I only revealed my plans a few hours before the plane took off to fly to our destination.”

Mphahlele and his wife went to Mauritius, to enjoy their seven day holiday.

Of course, he closely follows the 2018 World Cup in Russia. “I am little distraught right now,” he points out, “because my team, Germany, went out on Wednesday night.”

Then, he adds with a smile on his face: “Luckily the other team I support, Spain, is still hanging in there.”
