“We returned to Chiefs Village from Cape Town to have a regeneration session on Sunday,” reflects Giovanni Solinas. “And on Monday we only worked on some tactical preparations, before travelling to the Free State.”

Kaizer Chiefs will tackle Free State Stars at Bethlehem’s Goble Park on Tuesday, 18 September. Kick-off is at 19:30.

The Italian expressed satisfaction with his charges and the mood in the camp.

“The commitment is high and the concentration is excellent,” Solinas remarks. “I am happy with the players’ effort in the training sessions.”

The Amakhosi coach had two stints at Stars and will make tonight a return to Goble Park.

“Free State Stars are a difficult side and we will respect them,” continues Solinas. “The game will be special, as playing against my former club in their backyard will be emotional.

“Stars introduced me to South African football. So it can’t be business as usual. I support them when they play against other teams.”

Solinas confirmed the absentees in his squad, “Leonardo Castro is out with an ankle injury. Erick Mathoho is recovering from a groin strain and Joseph Molangoane’s road to recovery is at the stage of gym work to strengthen.”

Chiefs come from a resounding win over the weekend, beating Cape Town City 4-1, while Stars lost 1-0 away to Polokwane City.

“We need to win at home and away,” concludes Solinas. “We will use the same philosophy. We want to dominate and play well. We will play attacking football.”
