We have to focus on ourselves – Booysen

“SuperSport United have a decent team with quality players,” says Mario Booysen about Sunday’s opponent in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal. “We know their game plan. We have to focus, however, on ourselves – on what we do best and not too much on them.”

Amakhosi will host Matsatsantsa at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon, 4 November (kick-off at 15:00).

Kaizer Chiefs suffered a set-back on Saturday, being edged out 2-1 by Orlando Pirates. “That was a bitter pill to swallow,” admits the lanky defender, “but we shouldn’t dwell too much on the past. We just have to take the positives out of it and go forward.”

He adds: “It’s going to be a long season. There are still a lot of games and trophies to play for. We just need to focus each time on our next match and not look too far ahead. We have a lot of quality in our squad and that’s why we should approach every fixture with a positive attitude. It’s all about believing in ourselves.”

The Telkom Knockout represents an opportunity to win a trophy, although Booysen prefers to take it one game at a time for now. A possible final is still a way to go. He does, however, point out that against SuperSport United “we have to go out with all guns blazing, because we want to proceed to the next round.”

He concludes by saying, “We have to concentrate on our own performance, because if we play well, the result will come.”

Tickets for this Telkom Knockout game are sold at TicketPro (Spar, CNA, Jet, Edgars) outlets nationwide at a cost of R60.
