Angolan defender Inacio Miguel made a welcome return from injury on Wednesday night in Polokwane to help Amakhosi to a 4-1 triumph over Magesi, the Glamour Boys’ fifth successive victory in the Betway Premiership.

Now, swapping the new Peter Mokaba stadium for the old one, Miguel and his teammates are looking for a sixth win on the trot against Polokwane City on Saturday afternoon.

Happy to be fit again, he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, “It’s the first time in my career that I have missed so many games. It has been a bit difficult this season, playing CAF as well as PSL so there hasn’t been much time between games to recover. It has been a lesson to me, and I must look at ways to avoid this situation going forward.”

The commanding centre-back believes the team’s impressive run of form is due to them maintaining their high level of play every match without dropping off.

“In the past, our main problem was finding the consistency to establish momentum. It’s not about wining one or two games, it’s about putting a run of four, five games, and I think we are now on the right road,” he reveals, adding, “However, it’s not enough yet. Being at a big club like Kaizer Chiefs, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see a run like this; it should be expected, so we aim to make winning a habit.”

Wednesday’s performance was among Chiefs’ best of the season so far, yet the high standards Miguel sets for himself and his defensive comrades in arms left him slightly less than fully satisfied.

“I had mixed feelings afterwards, to be honest” he admits, “Because I am a defender and my main focus is to prevent goals, so although I’m delighted with the result and the four goals we scored, I wasn’t happy that we conceded a goal against Magesi. That should not happen, with all due respect to them.”

Amakhosi's opponents on the weekend lie comfortably in seventh place in the standings with a Top 8 position well within their grasp. Miguel foresees a tough, though not insurmountable, challenge ahead.

“We have only had two days to prepare but our technical team has studied them and shared their analysis with us, so we have a game plan, but I must stress that there are no easy games in the PSL, and every opponent is motivated lift their game when they play against Kaizer Chief,” he says, “Therefore, we have to match and exceed that determination with the even stronger mindset that comes with representing Amakhosi. If every player wins his duels, that will go a long way to deciding the match in our favour.”

The match kicks off at 17:30 on Saturday, 18 April at the old Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane
