Zwane ready for season’s final act

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has vowed that a revitalised Amakhosi will “come out guns blazing” to snatch the final MTN8 spot from TS Galaxy when the teams meet in a massive DStv Premiership clash at the Mbombela Stadium today.

“They are currently in the Top 8 and we also want to be in the Top 8. If they lose, we will kick them out of the Top 8, so the team that is going to be going all out is us. We want to be in the Top 8 at all costs, so we will take the game to them,” Zwane vowed defiantly after the Amakhosi’s final training session before the final league game of the season this afternoon.

The stakes are high today and the equation is simple, Chiefs simply have to beat Galaxy if they are to pip them to the remaining spot in the lucrative MTN8 competition.

While Chiefs will be without the injured Khama Billiat and Dumsani Zuma and the suspended Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Zwane believes his squad has enough firepower to get the job done in Nelspruit today.

“We have a clean bill of health. We are looking forward; we are not looking to make any excuses. We have everyone available, especially the front three. It’s up to us to select a good combination to get the maximum points,” says Zwane.

A pulsating 3-2 midweek home win over Golden Arrows – buoyed by Lebogang Manyama’s hat-trick – has lifted the mood in the Amakhosi camp and reinvigorated the camp, as they search for a silver lining to what has been a disappointing league season.

“We came from a situation where our energy levels were very low after our loss to Black Leopards. We had to lift the spirit in the camp and now we have to continue where we left off after the win against Golden Arrows. Arrows and TS Galaxy play a different brand of football, though there are some similarities in terms of the way they go forward, with a lot of speed. TS Galaxy have players who are very good in one on one situations,” says Zwane.

“They are hard runners; they work very hard as a team and use their wing backs effectively. They are bound to try and ensure we are a bit vulnerable at the back, but we’ve prepared well in how to stop them from hurting us. So far so good, we’re going out guns blazing, because we really need maximum points, a point will not help us. The team has responded positively, it’s only action that’s next,” the Chiefs coach added.

Zwane is proud that his former Kaizer Chiefs development products such as Happy Mashiane, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Njabulo Blom who have played such prominent roles in the first team this season.

“I used to tell them I know where I am going, I hope you will join me on this journey. As much as I am ambitious, I am very patient as well. I want you to know you have to dig deep and give your all in order to be successful. No one will give it to you. They are very humble boys. They want to be successful. They want to add value to the team and build their own brands within Kaizer Chiefs’ huge brand,” says Zwane.

Today, the Amakhosi youngsters – and the squad’s experienced campaigners – have a chance of bringing a smile to their fans’ faces in what is a cup final league decider of its own.
