Thabani Austin Dube made his debut for Kaizer Chiefs in their 2-1 league victory over Baroka on 25 August.

Having achieved the honour of playing for Amakhosi, he is off this week to help Bafana Bafana kickstart their 2022 FIFAWC Qualifying campaign in the games against Zimbabwe and Ghana.

Reflecting on his official debut for Chiefs as a late substitute against Baroka, replacing Keegan Dolly, he said: “It felt great that it finally happened (his Chiefs debut). I knew it was going to come someday, I just did not know when”.

Although he was an unused substitute in Chiefs’ opening league game against TS Galaxy, he was eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get a run out for Chiefs.

“I had to stay ready for it, I am very grateful that I played my first official game in the colors of Kaizer Chiefs,” Dube says proudly.

For the coming week, though, Dube will turn his attention to important international matters as he links up with the South African national team for their double header of FIFA World Cup Qualifying games, and he spoke of the pride he feels when representing his country.

“The national team call up is an honour, being called to represented the country is always an honour, everything happened so fast for me I made my debut for Chiefs a few days ago and now I am at the national team. I am honored to be part of the national team, I feel happy and these are joyful moments for me ” says Dube.

Bafana Bafana will take on Zimbabwe in Harare first up in Group G on the 3rd September, where Dube is likely to come up against his Chiefs teammate Khama Billiat.

They will then host Ghana in their second game at the FNB Stadium on the 6th September.

Ethiopia are the other team in Group G.

Dube is expected to be back at Chiefs on the 7th September, ahead of their league clash with Sundowns on the 12th September.
