Kaizer Chiefs touched down in South Africa on Sunday afternoon following an intense three-day international outing in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. The team faced AS Simba in the first-leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup second round preliminary phase clash on Saturday afternoon at the TP Mazembe stadium, with the return leg scheduled for this coming Sunday on home soil.
Before that continental showdown, Amakhosi will shift focus back to domestic duties as they resume their Betway Premiership campaign. The team is set to take on Siwelele FC in a midweek fixture at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.
On the log, Chiefs have collected 15 points in their eight league matches and are fourth in the table. Siwelele have seven points in the bag after nine matches and are in 14th place in the standings.
The medical team are currently managing a growing injury list, with George Matlou, Ethan Chislett, Paseka Mako, Bontle Molefe, Given Msimango, and Rushwin Dortley all sidelined. Msimango and Dortley, in particular, have been out for extended periods, posing selection challenges for the technical team.
Despite these setbacks, there’s a silver lining. The squad is seeing a wave of recoveries that could bolster the team in the coming games. Lebohang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Nkanyiso Shinga are edging closer to full match fitness, offering the coaching staff a welcome selection dilemma.
Siwelele will not be taken lightly as they have familiar faces to Amakhosi players and fans alike in their team. The side features former Chiefs forwards Tebogo Potsane and Christian Saile, along with loanees Samkelo Zwane and Happy Mashiane, who bring recent insider knowledge of the Amakhosi setup. The Chiefs coaching team anticipate a competitive encounter and are preparing accordingly.
Amakhosi supporters can secure their seats for just R60. Tickets are available online at www.opentickets.co.za and www.kaizerchiefs.com, or in-store at Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave supermarkets.
With continental ambitions and domestic pride on the line this week, Wednesday’s Betway Premiership clash promises to be an exciting encounter. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30 at FNB Stadium.
