Kaizer Chiefs Reserves moved to eighth position on the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) log after beating Polokwane City Reserves 2-0 on Sunday.

The match was part of the Asidlali festival at Seshego Stadium.

“It was not an easy win, but I was pleased with our possession football,” commented Chiefs’ reserve side coach Arthur Zwane. “I am glad we scored early in the game. However, we can’t allow teams to come back in the game after having taken the lead. That is something we need to rectify.”

Itumeleng Shopane, who has returned from his loan period at Cape Town All Stars, scored the opening goal in the 13th minute, while Asanda Dyani added another in the 48th minute.

“If we had allowed them to equalise, that could have changed the complexion of the game,” added Zwane. “At some point during the game they probed our goalmouth and they could maybe have scored one or two goals.”

The MDC is left with three games to go. “We have seen much improvement in our performances after a slow start to the season,” said Zwane. “I am glad with the win, but the bigger picture remains preparing the players for our first team as well as the South African national teams. I am glad that we gave our supporters a win and we thank them for their undying support.”

“We will take this win and rejoice in it,” the Chiefs coach concluded. “We are going back to training pitch to continue with the development process. I would like to congratulate our lads for the win.”

Chiefs’ line-up: Peterson; Lekoatsa, Blom, Moses, Mokwena; Ngcobo, Thibedi, Ntiya-Ntiya; Dyani (53’ Sithole), Shopane, (61’ Bunting), Ntsabeleng (71’ Mashiane)
