Valery Nahayo was outstanding at FNB Stadium on Saturday helping the Amakhosi beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the Absa Premiership top of the table clash. The Burundian was named ‘Man of the Match’ for his performance on the afternoon.

Congrats on your performances on Saturday. What was your reaction when you were told you had won the’ Man of the Match’ award?

Valery Nahayo: I thought the team played well on the afternoon and we deserved to win the game. I worked hard like all my teammates on Saturday. It is not about individual as much as I was happy to win the award I thought the whole team played well on the day.

Chiefs continued to train while other teams closed between Christmas and the New Year. Do you think that gave you an advantage...

Valery Nahayo: I think it worked to our advantage that we did not close. We were active during the holidays training hard and when other teams returned on the 3rd we were doing final touches. We knew that January was going to be a tough month and it was not going to be easy meeting Sundowns on our first game of the year and Ajax after that one.

You are ruled out due to suspension against Ajax Cape Town...

Valery Nahayo: That is football for you. I have faith in anyone who is going to slot in is going to do the job for the team. It is very important to take points away from Ajax Cape Town after they won their game down in Durban. We are quite aware of the challenges lying ahead but we taking it one game at a time.
