Amakhosi midfielder Kearyn Baccus is heading into Chiefs Absa Premiership meeting this weekend against Lamontville Golden Arrows, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban with a hope collecting what will be a crucial three points for Chiefson their travels. Baccus has featured in 14 league games this season and is well aware of the task that Chiefs are faced with when they come up against Arrows.

“We are definitely ready for the game. They a good team that plays good football we will be looking to get the win,” says the former Australia youth international about Chiefs’ next opponents.

Baccus has contributed with four assists this season including two in his last three league appearances against Highlands Park and Cape Town City. He feels that he is closing in on his objective of getting back to the levels he was at before his short lay-off through injury in November and December.

“Slowly but surely, I am getting back to my normal self after the injury. It’s always good to be top of the table because it’s easier to come in and help the team. I just have to keep working hard and see what happens,” he added.

With Chiefs at the top table Baccus is well aware that other teams will be trying to chase them down, but according to him,Amakhosi are ready for the challenge. “It is what it is,” he explained of Chiefs’ title challenge before further divulging,“We are taking every game as it comes, we just need to work hard at training and the more games we can win the better for us.”

Baccus though is enjoying his time at Chiefs having signed for the club in July last year, which saw him return to South Africa after many years plying his trade abroad. “So far so good, I need a little more time to adapt. The aim is to finish this season strong. We just want to keep winning, putting in a 100% effort and have a god season,” he said.

In addition to his one assist, Baccus scored the winner for Chiefs in their 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Cape Town City in the Mother City back on 27 August last year, netting the match winner in the 80th minute. As he heads to the city of his birth Baccus who featured when Chiefs defeated Arrows 2-0 earlier in the season, will be looking to contribute to another Chiefs win this afternoon. Kick-off for the game is at 15:30.
