After playing to a 0-0 draw last Saturday in Lubumbashi, DRC in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round, Kaizer Chiefs will face AS Simba at home this afternoon for the second leg which will determine the team that goes to the group stages of this season’s competition.
Amakhosi have not had a lot of time to prepare for today as they had to play a domestic league match between the first and second legs against Siwelele on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Simba landed in South Africa on the same day to ensure they have enough preparation time for this important fixture.
That midweek game affected Chiefs’ attacking department as Khanyisa Mayo could not finish the game due to injury after coming on in the second half. He will miss today’s match as he recovers.
A number of players were rested on Wednesday and some were on the bench. Four of the players will be back in the starting lineup for this game - they include Bradley Cross, Dillan Solomons, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Glody Lilepo. They replace Inancio Miguel, Reeve Frosler, Thabo Cele and Wandile Duba, respectively.
The coaches have 3-4-3 formation.
Brandon Petersen will be looking for another clean sheet between the sticks.
Bradley Cross is on the left of a back three, with Aden McCarthy in the centre and Zitha Kwinika on the right.
Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Ngcobo will be in the middle of the park with Solomons at the right wingback and Mfundo Vilakazi on the left.
Lilepo and Mduduzi Shabalala will play behind the striker.
Etiosa Ighodaro is the main attacker.
This afternoon’s referee is Delgado dos Santos Lenine. He is assisted by Jorge Correira Helio and Delgado Wilson Jorge. The fourth official is Leonidas Barbosa Da Graca. The match officals are all from Cape Verde.
The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup match between Amakhosi and AS Simba will commence at 15:00 at Dobsonville in Soweto. The match will be on SABC 2 and various SABC radio stations. There will be regular updates on the Club’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account, @kaizerchiefs.
