Kaizer Chiefs Reserves beat Platinum Stars Reserves 4-2 in an entertaining game on Saturday. It formed part of the Asidlali Festival of matches held at Tembisa’s Makhulong Stadium.

The enthusiastic crowd watched the Glamour Boys turning out in style with Yusuf Bunting in particular being in a class of his own. Besides scoring a brace, Bunting led from the front like a lead vocalist in a choir.

Bunting’s show started the second he netted the game’s opener. Itumeleng Shopane made a telling run on the right flank supplying a hard and low cross for Bunting to show his class, 1-0.

The second followed seven minutes later when a display of individual brilliance saw Bunting flicking the ball over a Stars defender before going one-on-one with their goalie, 2-0.

Numerous attacks followed but the referee’s half-time whistle saved Stars from going into the break having conceded an avalanche of goals.

The play resumed with the same intensity, but Stars pulled one back in the 47th minute after Chiefs’ defense was caught napping. Njabulo Blom’s own goal gave Stars some hope, 2-1.

The ever hard working Shopane’s thunderous drive hit the crossbar in the 53rd minute with the ball bouncing back into the field, only for Asanda Dyani to coolly head the ball into the back of the net, 3-1. Chiefs had restored their two goal lead.

Credit to Stars for their never die attitude. They were rewarded when Brylon Petersen could not stop a scorcher from a Stars player in the 79th minute, to set-up what promised to be tense final minutes of the game.

It wasn’t to be, however, with midfield marshal Given Thibedi instigating Chiefs’ final goal when providing Reamohetse Lekoatsa with the ball to score in the 88th minute, 4-2.

The Amakhosi crowd rose to their feet with the young Glamour Boys making Stars to chase shadows in the dying stages of the match. The evergreen Nkosingiphile Ngcobo took charge of the midfield as if he was conducting an orchestra with some neat passing game which delighted the singing and dancing Chiefs supporters in the stands.

The match ended 4-2 at Makhulong Stadium.

The victory moved Chiefs up the MDC log ladder to sixth position with 22 points from 14 matches.

It must have been a difficult task for the selectors to select the Man of the Match as various Chiefs players demonstrated excellent displays. However, in the end, the award was handed to Bunting, deservedly so.
