“We expect a tight game from Maritzburg United,” said Ernst Middendorp ahead of a tantalizing Telkom Knockout Cup semifinal match against Maritzburg United this afternoon. “It will be a typical cup match. Both teams want to get to the final. That’s just how it is.”

Middendorp’s comments followed a pre-match training session on Saturday afternoon in Nelspruit.

“We have prepared eleven players that are capable of doing the job for us,” he believes. “We have several players missing and similarly we have capable players waiting for their opportunity. It is just a matter of putting combinations together - the formula is consistent throughout. The players are ready, and we all understand what’s at stake.

“Maritzburg play with high intensity. We have to be ready for a tight game. I am happy with the preparations.”

Middendorp confirmed that even though Itumeleng Khune’s groin injury has healed, the goalkeeper didn’t make the trip to Mbombela because “now we’re busy getting him to be match ready. Kearyn Baccus recovered a two weeks ago. We’ve been working on him to be match and now is available for selection.

“All in all, we are looking forward to a tough match. Let’s see how it goes during the match. We know It is going to be an interesting game of football, but most importantly we want to be in the finals.”

Amakhosi take on the Team of Choice in the Telkom Knockout semifinals. The match is billed for the Mbombela Stadium at 15:00.
