Ekstein and Mahlasela start

There are some changes to Kaizer Chiefs’ starting XI compared to Tuesday’s one-all draw to Baroka FC. Amakhosi will face Maritzburg United tonight in an Absa Premiership fixture.

Coach Giovanni Solinas has decided to start with Kabelo Mahlasela and Hendrick Ekstein ahead of Siphiwe Tshabalala and Gustavo Páez who started in Tuesday’s encounter.

Chiefs have a few players out due to a variety of reasons. Dumsani Zuma is still down with flu, George Maluleka’s injury is recovering well and will start light training next week, Teenage Hadebe is back in full training and Joseph Moloangoane has been released from hospital and will see a surgeon next week.

Virgil Vries, meanwhile, injured the ligament inside his knee during the MTN8 quarter-final clash against Free State Stars and will probably be fit again in two to three weeks.

Amakhosi beat Maritzburg 2-0 in last season’s league match at Harry Gwala Stadium with Gustavo Páez netting both goals. Chiefs also won the home fixture 2-0 and again it was the Venezuelan striker who found the back of the net. Dumsani Zuma scored the other goal.

Itumeleng Khune stopped a penalty from Evans Rusike in the match played in Pietermaritzburg.

Chiefs have collected two points from their three league fixtures player so far and are in 13th position on the log table. Maritzburg United are one position lower, but haven’t booked a point as yet in their two league outings.

Amakhosi will face the Team of Choice in an Absa Premiership clash at Pietermaritzburg’s Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday evening, 17 August 2018 (kick-off is at 20:00).

The referee is Luxolo Badi.
