Happy for Mashiane – Radebe

“I’m happy for Happy,” affirms proud Kaizer Chiefs Reserves attacking midfielder Sabelo Radebe. “He is my close friend as we stayed together at the clubhouse. He has been wanting this opportunity so much and God has finally answered his prayers.”

Radebe believes it is only the beginning for Happy Mashiane, who recently earned promotion to Chiefs’ senior team. Mashiane had been the toast of the town after his exploits in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) and Radebe hopes to one day follow in his wake by delivering in the reserve league.

The midfielder, who turns 19 on Sunday, will be looking to do just so by getting an early birthday present when Kaizer Chiefs Reserves take on Cape Town City Reserves at Ulundi’s Prince Mangosuthu Stadium on Saturday, 2 February.

‘Bibo’ is adamant City’s reserve side will play a cautious game. “I’m expecting Cape Town City to sit back and not play pound-for-pound with us, because they’re chasing the league so they will do anything to get three points. They have a lot to lose so they won’t be coming at us.”

Radebe, who has two goals in the MDC, will be looking to celebrate his birthday with a win. “I’ll be hoping something good happens, maybe I’ll score a goal and help the team win,” the midfielder says with a smile, before adding that he’ll have a relaxed day after going to church on Sunday morning.

“We want to finish in a respectable place in the challenge – maybe going up to third or second to protect our pride and ego,” comments Radebe as Kaizer Chiefs Reserves are mathematically out of contention for league honours.

“We will be looking to defend our MultiChoice Diski Shield, because we have been on song as of late, so we will carry on with that momentum heading towards that.”

Radebe and company have two crucial encounters in the MDC before they can start thinking about the MultiChoice Diski Shield, which is more like a cup competition.

Chiefs Reserves will take on Cape Town City Reserves at Prince Mangosuthu Stadium on Saturday, 2 February with kick-off scheduled for 12:00. The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport 4, DStv channel 204.
