Kaizer Chiefs will travel to Egypt for the first time in 23 years to face Al Masry on 23 November 2025 at the Suez Stadium in the town of Suez in their opening game in Group D of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

Chiefs’ last game in Egypt was against Al Ahly in the 2002 CAF Super Cup on 15 March 2002, a game Amakhosi lost 4-1.

Al Masry become the fourth different Egyptian club that Chiefs will meet in CAF competitions, having had past meetings against Al-Ahly, Ismaily and Zamalek.

Egypt is the second country, along with Angola, against whom Chiefs will have faced four different clubs.

Chiefs’ overall record against Egyptian clubs in continental competition has seen them play six games, of which they have one win, two draws and three losses.

In Egypt, Chiefs have played three games. In a 1993 CAF Champions League second round, second-leg tie against Zamalek, they went down 1-0, losing the tie on away goals after the aggregate score was tied at 2-2.

In 2001, Chiefs drew 1-1 away with Ismaily in a CAF Cup Winners Cup quarterfinal second-leg clash. Chiefs won the tie on away goals following a first-leg 0-0 draw.

Chiefs also featured in the 2002 edition of the CAF Super Cup losing to Al Ahly in Cairo.

Chiefs will be facing Egyptian opponents in a fourth different CAF Inter Clubs competition, having met them in the CAF Champions League, CAF Cup Winners Cup nd CAF Super Cup.

This will be Chiefs first meeting in the group stages of a CAF competition against a team from Egypt.

Excluding the 2002 CAF Super Cup Final, all of Chiefs’ seven prior meetings against Egyptian clubs have been knockout games. Twice they have faced Egyptian opponents over two legs in a knockout tie.

The town of Suez will be the third Egyptian city in which Chiefs will be playing. They have played twice in Cairo and once previously in Ismailia.

Against North African opponents in the Group Stage of a CAF competition, Chiefs faced Moroccan side, Wydad Casablanca in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League group stages. Chiefs lost 4-0 away and won 1-0 at home.

Opposition Watch: 

Al Masry are facing South African opponents for the first time in CAF competition.

Al Masry’s best performances in CAF competition has seen them reach three semifinals, the 1999 CAF Cup Winners Cup, 2002 CAF Cup and 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.

This is their fourth participation in the CAF Confederation Cup. They have progressed beyond the group stages in all three previous group stage participations - in 2018, 2019/20 and 2021/22.

They have played nine group stage games at home and have won eight, losing just once.

They are currently fifth in the Egyptian Premier League with 20 points after 12 rounds, trailing league leaders Ceramica Cleopatra by six points.

They are undefeated in their last five games in all competitions, with two wins and three 0-0 draws in that run.

They reached the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup with a 2-1 aggregate win over Al Ittihad of Libya in the second round of qualifying, drawing the away leg 0-0 before a 2-1 second-leg home win.

Al Masry coach, Nabil Kouki, who is from Tunisia, faced Amakhosi as a player in the 2001 CAF Cup Winners Cup semifinal with Club Africain. Chiefs won the tie 3-0 on aggregate. Kouki played the full 90 minutes in both legs of that tie. Chiefs won the first-leg at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, 2-0 with a brace from Thabo Mooki and also won the second-leg in Tunis,1-0, Luke Jukulile scoring in the 84^th minute.

Amakhosi have reached the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time.

Chiefs are participating in the group stage of a CAF competition for the second time.

Chiefs’ only other participation in a CAF competition group stage was in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League, Amakhosi came through that group as runners-up, eventually reaching the final where they lost to Al Ahly.

In the 2020/21 group stages of the CAF Champions League, Chiefs lost just one game, away from home against Wydad AC of Morocco. They avoided defeat in their five other games (W2 D3).

Chiefs defeated Angolan side, Kabuscorp on penalties in the first qualifying round after aggregate scores were tied at 1-1. They then overcame AS Simba from the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-1 on aggregate in the second qualifying round.

Chiefs have played six away games in all competitions this season They have managed to win three games and drawn two, with one loss in regulation time.

Chiefs have kept five clean sheets in six away games in all competitions this season.
