Kaizer Chiefs will play their second Group D Game of the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, in Polokwane when they host Egyptian side Al Masry on Match-Day 5 at 15:00.

Amakhosi can secure their passage to the last eight with a 1-0 or 2-0 win, or if they win by two or more goals if both teams score, for example, a 3-1 or 4-2 win will suffice should both teams score.

Chiefs’ other game at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup saw them draw 1-1 with Zamalek in their second game in Group D on 29 November.

Chiefs’ meeting with and Al Masry on Match-Day 1 resulted in a 2-1 win for the Egyptians with goals from Bonheur Mugisha and Mohamed Hashem, either side of Dillon Solomons’ equaliser.

Mugish,a a Rwandan international who has scored one goal in the CAF Confederation Cup this season and has featured in all six of Al Masry’s games across all rounds, is suspended

Overall, across all CAF Competitions, this is Chiefs’ ninth meeting against an Egyptian club. From their previous eight games, Chiefs have one win, three draws and four losses.

At home, Chiefs have faced Egyptian clubs three times. In 1993 they defeated Zamalek 2-1 in the first-leg of their second round clash in what is now the CAF Champions League. In 2001, Amakhosi drew 0-0 in the quarterfinal first-leg against Ismaily in the CAF Cup Winners Cup, while in the current campaign, Chiefs drew 1-1 with Zamalek.

Chiefs are undefeated at home across three previous games against Egyptian teams, winning one and drawing two in CAF Competitions.

For Al Masry, this is their first visit to South Africa.

Presently, in Group D, Chiefs and Al Masry both have seven points. The Egyptians are ahead of Chiefs as they have a superior head-to-head record.

Al Masry began their campaign with successive wins over Chiefs at home and Zesco away. Since then, they have drawn away and lost at home to Zamalek.

Al Masry’s last CAF Confederation Cup game ended in a 2-1 loss at home to Zamalek on Match-Day 5.

Chiefs failed to win their first two games, losing away to Al Masry and then drawing with Zamalek, before winning back-to-back games away and at home against ZESCO United, both 1-0.

Amakhosi are now three games undefeated in the competition.

Chiefs have scored in all of their group games in the competition this season, scoring a total of four goals.

Chiefs have kept back to back clean-sheets in their wins over ZESCO, which they achieved once before in a CAF Competition group stage, namely in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League when defeating Petro Luanda 2-0 at home, then drawing 0-0 away against them before a 1-0 home win over Wydad.

Amakhosi saw their seven game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end with a 2-1 loss to Stellenbosch FC in midweek in Cape Town in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32.

Chiefs were on a four game winning run prior to losing to Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs have won three of their four home in the Caf Confederation Cup so far, only failing to win in their 1-1 draw on Match-Day 2 against Zamalek (including the qualifying rounds).

Chiefs are undefeated in their last 11 home games in CAF Competition across all rounds. Of these games they have seven wins and four draws.

ZESCO are the first team that Chiefs have managed to win against home and away in a CAF Competition group stage.

A win for Chiefs will be their third in this seasons CAF Confederation Cup group stage, it will be the most number of victories they will have recorded in a CAF competition group stage. In the 2020/21 CAF CL group stages Chiefs won two games.

Glody Lilepo scored Chiefs’ only goal in their 1-0 win over ZESCO in Durban on Match-Day 4. He is Chiefs top scorer in the CAF Confederation Cup this season, with three goals.

Lilepo’s goal against ZESCO was his first in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup this season.

In the group stages, Mfundo Vilakazi has created four chances, the most by a Chiefs player.

Zitha Kwinika has made 163 Passes, the most for Chiefs.

Ignacio Miguel played his 50th appearance for Chiefs in all competitions against Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs have used 27 players in the group stages this seaso;, five players Miguel, Brandon Petersen, Pule Mmodi, Kwinika and Solomons have started all four group games.

Al Masry: 

Their last match was a 1-1 draw in the Egyptian Premier League away to Zed FC on 4 February.

Presently, Al Masry are sixth in the Egyptian Premier League standings, a point behind fifth-placed Smouha who have played a games more.

They are currently 11 points behind league leaders, Ceramica Cleopatra, who have played 16 league games.

They have the best shot conversion rate of all teams in the CAF Confederation C group stages this season, 23%.

They have committed 44 fouls, the fewest of any team in the group stage.

In the group stages, Mohamed Hashem is their top scorer with two goals.

Abderrahim Deghmoum has created five chances, the most of any Al Masry player in the group stages.

They have scored six goals across four group games, scoring three in the first half and three in the second half.

They have had six players who have played in all four of their group games, amongst them the suspended Mugisha, along with Mahmoud Hamdy, Deghmoum, Karim El Eraki, Hassan Ali and Khaled Sobhy.
