Amakhosi midfielder Willard Katsande believes Chiefs’ clash this coming Saturday afternoon against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup will be a competitive highly charged fixture between the sides - with it being a friendly is in its title only. With the onset of the international break Katsande feels the clash against Sundowns will be the perfect way for Amakhosi to stay match fit and it is also the chance for the fringe players to get a run out.

“This cup is the perfect way for us to keep in match shape,” explains Katsande before adding on, “we have been doing well recently and we don’t want to lose our momentum and it is good to have this fixture against Sundowns. We going to approach it in a competitive way and give the fans something to shout about”.

According to Katsande, the game also presents a number of players who have not been regularly active the chance to be counted. “This is the chance of some of the other guys to feature. The season is very long, and we will need everyone at some time. It is good that the guys will get to play in a game like this season against a strong team.

“Like I said we need a team not a squad. it is good for some of the guys to get game time in their legs and when duty calls you do your best and try to take the team to the next level, in front of a big crowd it is the best way to test yourself. overtime you will get injuries and we will need to draw on the entire squad that is why games like this are important,” he adds.

Katsande is also expecting Sundowns to be at their highest level and is not expecting them to go easy on Chiefs saying, “this is a big fixture between us and Sundowns and I know they will bring their strongest team. This will make the game very tough, challenging and competitive”.

The Chiefs midfielder who played his 200th league game for Amakhosi on the 28th September in a 1-0 league win over Baroka is also happy with the way Chiefs are currently performing in the league. He would like Amakhosi to continue building on the ground work they have laid thus far and holds a view that Chiefs are in a strong position to be amongst the challengers for the title.

“We have begun well and have had some good performances recently. Consistency will be key for us to achieve what we want. There is always room for improvement. We need to stay humble and continue working hard. I do feel that with the squad we have and with the way things have gone so far we will still be competing with the front runners come May,” he concludes.

The Shell Helix Ultra Cup match will take place on Saturday at FNB Stadium at 16:00. Tickets are available from Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers stores.
