Itumeleng Khune walked away with the Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season at the PSL awards ceremony held on Tuesday, 29 May. The event was held at the Sandton Convention Centre.

“Thank you to my teammates, supporters and my family for their support throughout the season,” acknowledged Khune, who wasn’t at the awards evening. Instead, Itumeleng’s father Elias picked up the award. “It was a tough season for the team, but I’m grateful for my contribution. We will do better as a team next season.”

Khune kept 16 clean sheets, conceding 18 goals in his 27 league appearances this season. The Chiefs goalkeeper broke his own record of keeping 15 clean sheets during the 2013/2014 season.

Khune will pocket R50 000 for his hard work.

Itumeleng Shopane collected the Player of the Tournament award for the inaugural MultiChoice Diski Shield.

Shopane played in all the five matches, resulting in Kaizer Chiefs Reserves clinching the winner’s medals after beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the final. He scored one goal in the process.

“I appreciate this reward,” commented an elated Shopane. “I wish to pass my gratitude to the entire Amakhosi Family for their support during the course of the season. Most of all, I want to thank as well my family and in particular my mother and brother for their support.”

Shopane will pocket R30 000 for his hard work.

Kaizer Chiefs Reserve side captain Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, meanwhile, ascended the stage to collect the team’s MultiChoice Diski Shield trophy.
