Kaizer Chiefs had their pre-match training session at the venue of their Champions League clash against Wydad Atletic on a blistering hot Saturday afternoon at the 4 August 1983 Stadium in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso.

The match takes place in a neutral country, thanks to the Burkinabe Football Association agreeing to host the match that was initially scheduled to take place on 13 February in Casablanca.

“It’s our first time in Burkina Faso,” confirms coach Gavin Hunt. “But luckily, we’ve travelled to many countries in Africa and Burkina Faso is quite similar to some countries in the west of our continent, so it’s not completely new to us.

“The boys performed well in training on Saturday and we are hoping for a good game today. What we know is that it won’t be easy because our opponents have more experience in the CAF Champions League competition and have reached every stage. We just have to focus on doing our best and hopefully pick up a win.”

With the mercury expected to reach 39°C in Ouagadougou this afternoon, the Chiefs coach says he is not so worried as both teams will have to endure the sweltering heat conditions.

“The weather in Morocco is much cooler now so they also have to adjust.  The playing fields are level – no one team has an advantage,” says Hunt. “At the end of the day, we want to play great football and bring home the points.”

The coach also confirmed that his 18-man squad is looking good with no reports of any niggles.

Chiefs’ second group stage match in the CAF Champions’ league group stage will kick off at 16:00 (18:00 in SA) at the 4 August 1983 Stadium in Ouagadougou. The match will be available on CAF’s online platforms, which will be shared on our social media platforms closer to kick-off.
