Kaizer Chiefs rallied from a first half setback to snatch an equaliser against Santos in a Premier League match at the Johannesburg Stadium on Wednesday night.

Santos took the lead in the 40th minute through Thulani Mhlangu from a free-kick spot after Quinton Booysen was fouled on the edge of the box.

Amakhosi almost leveled the score five minutes later following a brilliant run by Siyabonga Nomvete but Jabu Pule could not control the ball until dispossessed by the Santos defence.

Assistant coach Steve Komphela made a double substitution at the start of the second half with Doctor Khumalo coming on for Robson Muchichwa and Luke Petros on for Arthur Zwane.

Khumalo took control of the midfield and the strikers started receiving more balls from the middle of the park and Chiefs started attacking with urgency.

Mhlangu handle the box in the box as he tried to clear danger in the 60th minute and referee Achmat Salie did not hesitate and pointed to the spot. Nomvete sent Andre Arendse the wrong way to bring Amakhosi on level terms.

Justice Sithole was introduced for Marco Mthebu in the 84th minute as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Amakhosi will be in action against Black Leopards in the opening round of the Bobsave Superbowl. The match will be played at the Johannesburg Stadium and kickoff is at 16:00 and not 20:00 due to Super 12 rugby at nearby Ellis Park on the same day.
