Amakhosi defender Yagan Sasman is looking forward to Chiefs’ next Absa Premiership encounter on Wednesday evening which will see them come up against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Kick-off for the game is at 19h30.

Sasman who has featured in four league games for Chiefs this season after making his league debut in a 2-0 win over Amazulu on the 24th September, is not taking the game against Chippa lightly as he warned.

“We are taking this game as seriously as any other games,” says Sasman. “We are preparing for it in the same way as we have in our last games against Sundowns and Pirates. We are looking to get as many points as we can before the FIFA International break, because we want to build a lead over the rest of the pack.”

While Chiefs managed to negotiate a tricky tie against Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout Cup quarterfinals this past weekend and progressed to the last four after winning on penalties, Chippa fell to Sundowns in their quarterfinal encounter on Sunday and Sasman believes this will make them a dangerous proposition on Wednesday evening.

“I think losing to Sundowns will make them more determined to want to get a result against us, but every team when they face Chiefs they want to win, and they treat it as a big fixture. They come out guns blazing, and we will expect nothing less,” he adds.

With Chiefs having featured in one high profile derby over the weekend against Orlando Pirates and with another game against their archrivals on the weekend, Sasman and his teammates are not getting caught up in the derby hysteria and are solely focused on their clash against Chippa.

“All season long we have been taking things one game at a time. Right now, Chippa is our focus we are not really thinking beyond that,” he says.

Sasman has also been complimentary of the Chiefs defense who have ensured that the Amakhosi have not conceded a goal in their last four league games: “With the continuous hard work and everyone working together for the same goal and good communication, everything has been getting better. We can only improve.”

On a personal note Sasman who has featured in six games in all competitions this season is happy that he has been able to help in the team’s success. He concludes: “I am really enjoying my football. I think it has been a good start for me. I have been getting time on the pitch and I have been learning from the other guys and I feel I still have a lot to learn.”

Chiefs will play two league games in the space of just under 72 hours after their clash against Chippa on Wednesday they will meet Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium in an Absa Premiership game on Saturday afternoon.
