“We have done our homework and ready for this evening’s game,” says Ernst Middendorp as he talks about his team’s preparation for the game against Maritzburg United. “As always, we want to focus on our preparations for the match and not on the opponents. Still, we have done our intelligence on United and know pretty much what to expect from them.”

Kaizer Chiefs concluded their preparation on Friday afternoon in anticipation of their Absa Premiership assignment against the visiting Maritzburg United.

“Look, this is a team that we ‘let off the hook’ the last time, in a way,” recalls Middendorp. “Remember when we played them in Maritzburg, we were in full control of the match until we gifted them a goal and missed clear opportunities to win the match? We cannot afford any mistake this time. I saw them play recently beating Wits 0-1. Nothing much has changed since the last time, except for one or two players like Judas Moseamedi were not in their squad. And you know how it goes, maybe the player having done well against us will be back in their squad tonight.”

Middendorp is says he is pleased that “Khotso Moleko is back in the squad. “We had to be careful last week when he was not 100%. This weekend though, Siyabonga Ngezana is not fully okay and we decided on a precautionary measure to let him recover well. Another player is Njabulo Blom, who picked up a strain last week in the Multichoice Diski Challenge.

“I’m glad that Khama Billiat looks fresh and reenergised. He is eager to play and returned to the squad with good energy. Akumu Agay is gelling in well in the team. He shows glimpses of excellence so far. The rest of the team is looking good and ready. We are looking forward to the match.”

Kick-off under early floodlights between the Glamour Boys and the Team of Choice is set at 18:00. Tickets can be bought from Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers supersmaket at R40 per ticket.
