Dumsani Zuma is still delighted after having scored his first goal in Amakhosi colours last weekend.  Wearing jersey number 28, Zuma contributed with an 85th minute goal to help Kaizer Chiefs beat a resilient Ajax Cape Town.

“It started with George Maluleka’s pass to Gustavo Páez,” recalls Zuma, who joined the Glamour Boys at the start of 2017/18 PSL season. “I was in an awkward position, but I saw their goalie was off his line and I decided to take a shot. That’s how I scored.”

That winning goal brought the Moses Mabhida Stadium into a state of rapture. The goal meant a lot to the Amakhosi faithful and it took the team to second position at the time (it is third position by now), thereby keeping the club in close contention of the league race.

“I was so happy when I saw the net rattled,” Zuma reflects. “I got lost in the excitement and only realised what the goal meant to the supporters when I saw the recordings afterwards.”

The soft spoken attacker continues, “It feels great to be able to contribute and to help the team bag the three points.”

Then, the 22-year-old adds with a twinkle in his eye: “My uncle is not really a Chiefs supporter, but he was among the first to express his happiness for me scoring that goal. He sent me a long text message that got me in tears of joy.”

After the referee’s final whistle, Zuma had a lengthy chat with Philani Zulu. “He was very complimentary. Philani got substituted during the first half due to injury, but he made sure to share his excitement for me. It was great to receive so much praise from my teammates. The coach also expressed his gratitude and encouraged me to keep it up.”

“I will continue working hard,” the attacker points out. “I want to keep scoring to improve the chances of us lifting trophies.”

Zuma finishes off by saying the following: “I want to thank the supporters for pushing us to the limit. I also wish that everybody has a safe and enjoyable festive season.”
