Club captain and Kaizer Chiefs’ longest serving player, Itumeleng Khune will start his first game of the 2023/24 season this evening when the team takes on SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership. This first start of the season has a massive milestone for Khune as this game will make him the first player in the PSL era to play a match for one Club in 17 consecutive seasons.

The game against SuperSport comes four days after Amakhosi’s last match against Royal AM which ended 0-0 at FNB Stadium.

SuperSport were also in action over the weekend against Gaborone United in the CAF Confederation Cup in a match that finished in a 1-1 stalemate.

Amakhosi are 7th on the log, with 8 points in the bag after six outings, while Matsatsantsa are in 4th position after collecting 10 points in 5 matches.

Coach Molefi Ntseki is trying to manage his squad, with the team expected to play 4 matches in 11 days.

The coach has made two changes to the team that kicked off the last match. We will see Khune replace Brandon Petersen in goal, as Petersen attends to a family bereavement. The second change is in attack, where Christian Saile replaces Pule Mmodi.

Chiefs will keep to a 4-3-3 formation for this game.

Khune is the evening’s goalie.

S’fiso Hlanti is at left-back, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe is joined by Given Msimango at centre-back, and Zitha Kwinika is at right-back.

Yusuf Maart is in the midfield with Edson Castillo and they link up with Letlhogonolo George. Matlou, who starts his second game of the current season for Amakhosi.

The ever-impressive Saile, who previously came on as a second half substitute, starts tonight on the left wing, and Ashley Du Preez will run on the right.

Jasond Gonzales will lead the attack for the Glamour Boys.

Khune reclaims the captain’s armband this evening.

The match officials are referee Jelly Chavani. Assistant referees are Khamusi Razwimisani and Xolani Boneni. The fourth official for the game is Bongani Matete.

The match between Amakhosi and Matsatsantsa kicks off at 19:30 at New Peter Mokaba Stadium. The DStv Premiership match is live on SuperSport’s Channel 205 on DStv and various SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
