Kaizer Chiefs have had to put the misfortune of exiting the CAF Confederation Cup last Friday behind them immediately in order to prepare for Tuesday evening’s Carling Knockout Cup tie against TS Galaxy at FNB stadium.
Chiefs were edged out of the Confederation Cup second preliminary round on penalties after winning the second leg 1-0 at Moses Mabhida stadium to level the tie at 1-1, but they have another chance to chase silverware almost straight away.
“It’s disappointing falling out of the CAF competition. The guys did well to try and get back after the first leg in Zambia but it just wasn’t meant to be,” Amakhosi defender, Reeve Frosler tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, before adding, “But now our full focus goes onto the Carling Cup.”
Victory would take Amakhosi into the quarterfinals, and Frosler believes it could give his team the impetus to achieve the success that the Club is striving for and the supporters dream of.
“TS Galaxy have been a tough opponent for us in the last few games,” Frosler admits, yet notes, “But it’s a cup competition and cup games are always different. We’ll look to put our best foot forward on Tuesday and try and go all the way in the Carling Cup. We have ambitions of wanting to win a trophy and this gives us an opportunity to try and do that.”
With the highly anticipated clash against Orlando Pirates looming large, Frosler insists that they won’t be distracted against the Rockets.
“Obviously, we’ve got the (Soweto) Derby coming up on the weekend as well, but our attention is on TS Galaxy now and will use the game as preparation for Saturday,” he says.
The Carling Knockout Cup tie between Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy at FNB stadium kicks off at 19:00 on Tuesday, 27 October.
